Nutrition
Quality first. When you eat the right foods, quantity takes care of itself.
2 min readMost nutrition advice starts in the wrong place. It tells you to eat less, count calories, track macros. But this approach fights your biology, and it doesn't work long-term.
Quality Before Quantity
Your body is designed to regulate how much you eat, but only when the food sends the right signals. The two most important factors in nutrition are quality and quantity, in that order. Fix quality first, and quantity becomes dramatically easier to manage.

The Food Matrix
A whole grain of wheat and refined white flour come from the same raw material. But milling strips fiber, B vitamins, and minerals. The whole grain's intact cellular structure slows digestion, feeds gut bacteria, and triggers satiety hormones correctly. The flour floods your bloodstream with glucose and leaves you hungry again in two hours. This is the food matrix, and it's why "a calorie is a calorie" is wrong.
We look at three dimensions together: how nutrient-rich the food is, how processed it is, and how much harm it carries. No single number tells the whole story.
Nutrient Richness
How many vitamins, minerals, and beneficial compounds does this food deliver per calorie?
Processing Level
How far has this food been transformed from its original state? Whole foods score best; ultra-processed industrial products score worst.
Harm Load
How much added sugar, refined oils, artificial additives, or excess sodium does it contain?
Keep It Out of the House
The easiest way to eat well is to never need self-control. Food in the cupboard has to be beaten on Monday night, and again on Tuesday, and again on Thursday afternoon. Some of those nights you lose, and that is arithmetic, not weakness. So decide once, at the store, where nothing is tempting anyone.
